Short Story

What the Wind Picked Up

This unique collection of short stories features top Christian authors at their best, demonstrating the notion that "a single idea can launch a thousand different stories." In this fascinating experiment of fiction, each of the 21 short stories in this book use the same five elements:
  • The same first line: The wind was picking up.
  • A case of mistaken identity
  • A pursuit at a noted landmark
  • An unusual form of transportation
  • The same last line: So that's exactly what she did.
Enjoy Mindy's contribution to this collection with her mystery short story "The Delivery." Royalties from this book are donated to the Christian relief organization Samaritan's Purse.

Plays and Musicals

Long before Mindy was a novelist, she was a published playwright. Nowadays, many of Mindy's plays are still being performed in churches and schools across the country. Following are some of her favorite plays, which are available to purchase as single reading copies or with full performance rights. You can also find some of her other plays at www.95church.com.

The Other Wise Man play—DRAMA
Approximately 30 minutes
Variable cast can number more than 20 or as few as 5
11 M, 4 W, extras, doubling possible (min 4 M, 1 W)

Based on the story The Other Wise Man by Henry Van Dyke, this beautiful drama tells the fictional tale of Artaban—a magi who intends to visit the baby Jesus along with the three other wise men but gets held up along the way and misses traveling with the group. Determined to see the babe anyway, he strikes out on his own. Artaban spends his life moving among the poor and downtrodden as he searches for the Messiah, using the precious jewels intended as a gift for the Savior to help those in need instead. In the end, as Artaban gives away his final jewel, he finally comes face to face with the joyous truth about meeting—and serving—the true King of Kings.

Eternity vs. Jones play—COMEDY/DRAMA
Approximately 45 minutes
6 M, 4 W

If you went on trial for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you? Mike Jones sure thinks so—until he finds himself in a heavenly court, face to face with plenty of evidence to the contrary! Through hilarious testimony of his closest friends and family members, Mike realizes that he could have done far, far more to show his faith to the world—and especially to his sister Ellen, who died not knowing the Lord. This play moves the audience from raucous laughter to tender tears even as it encourages all to take a closer look at how the evidence might stack up for or against them on judgement day.
